Camera types

Choose by camera type

Dome and turret

Compact and discreet, for ceilings and walls indoors or out. Vandal-resistant versions suit public areas.

Bullet

Visible and pointed, with longer reach. A clear deterrent on perimeters and entrances.

PTZ

Pan, tilt and zoom to follow activity or patrol a large area from one position.

Panoramic and thermal

Wide-area views from one camera, and thermal imaging that works in darkness.

Recording

Network video recorders from compact 4-channel units to rack recorders for large sites.

PoE switching

Power and connect cameras with one cable each. Check the PoE budget covers every camera.

Recording people? UK GDPR applies.

If your cameras capture identifiable people, data protection law applies. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) publishes guidance on video surveillance, including signage, retention and access requests.

CCTV questions

How many cameras can one recorder handle?

Recorders are sold by channel count: an 8-channel NVR records up to eight cameras. Also check the recording bandwidth and the number of drive bays, which set how much footage you can keep.

What is a PoE budget?

PoE switches power cameras over the network cable. The budget is the total power the switch can supply across all ports. Add up the power draw of your cameras, allowing more for PTZ and cameras with heaters or IR.

How long should we keep footage?

Keep it only as long as you need it for the purpose you recorded it. Set a retention period, size your storage to match, and document it in your CCTV policy.
