UK requirements

Two areas UK organisations should plan for

PSTN and ISDN switch-off

The UK is moving away from legacy analogue and ISDN telephone services. Openreach has announced the closure of the legacy public switched telephone network by 31 January 2027.

Organisations should identify analogue and ISDN lines and check equipment such as alarms, lift lines, door-entry systems and payment terminals that may depend on them.

We can help audit existing services and plan migration to appropriate digital connectivity or SIP-based services.

Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed scheme covering baseline technical controls for protecting organisations against common cyber threats.

Managed firewall configuration, secure configuration and security-update management can form part of the technical evidence required for the relevant controls.

Managed services do not by themselves provide Cyber Essentials certification. The wider IT environment and organisation remain within the assessment scope.

Service ownership

Who is responsible for what?

The following shows a typical division of responsibility. The exact arrangement is agreed with each customer.

Area Typical responsibility Arrangement
Monitoring and alerts NetworkDistri Managed devices and agreed connections are monitored and relevant alerts are investigated.
Configuration changes Shared The customer requests or approves changes; NetworkDistri carries out and documents agreed work.
Firmware and updates NetworkDistri Vendor releases and security advisories are reviewed and updates are scheduled within the agreed scope.
Hardware faults NetworkDistri Fault diagnosis and replacement coordination can be provided where covered by the agreed service.
Internet connections Customer The customer normally holds the connectivity contract. NetworkDistri can assist with fault liaison when authorised.
New equipment Shared The customer approves purchases. NetworkDistri can specify and supply suitable equipment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a managed service and ad-hoc IT support?
Ad-hoc support generally responds when a problem occurs. A managed service provides ongoing management of agreed infrastructure, including monitoring, maintenance, configuration and lifecycle planning.
Do we need to replace our existing equipment?
Not necessarily. Existing equipment can be assessed before onboarding. Where equipment is unsupported, unsuitable or reaching the end of its useful life, replacement options can be discussed.
Can you work with our existing internet provider?
Yes. Customers normally retain their connectivity contracts. With appropriate authorisation, NetworkDistri can assist with technical fault liaison.
Can managed services support Cyber Essentials?
They can support relevant technical areas such as firewall configuration, secure configuration and security-update management. Managed services do not themselves provide Cyber Essentials certification.
How should we prepare for the PSTN switch-off?
Start by identifying analogue and ISDN lines and every device connected to them. This should include telephones, alarms, lift lines, door-entry equipment and payment terminals.
Can you take over from our existing IT provider?
A managed service can be introduced following a structured handover covering access, configurations, documentation, support contracts, backups and monitoring.
What is the minimum contract term?
A 12-month term is proposed for the plans shown on this page. Final contract length, renewal and notice arrangements must be confirmed before publication and contracting.
What is not included in the monthly price?
Hardware, vendor licences, manufacturer support contracts, internet connections and separately quoted project work are generally outside the monthly management fee.
Do you support sites throughout the UK?
Remote monitoring and management can be provided for UK sites. Any requirement for physical site visits would be agreed as part of the service scope.
